Blanket Glacier
Nestled deep in the Monashee Mountains of British Columbia lies Blanket Glacier Chalet. Known simply as “The Blanket”, this special place is only accessible by helicopter and offers a highlight reel of ski features often seen in different parts of the world. From deep, "Japan-like" pow, to world-class pillow features, to endless tree skiing, open bowls, and everything in between, it will be impossible to ski a single run without laughing and hollering out loud with your friends because chances are, it will be the best ski run of your life. Purchased in 1956 by the Schaffer family and eventually handed down to son Marty and sister Heidi, this skiing mecca has created and maintained one of the most coveted models in the world; a place that attracts hard-charging ski touring enthusiasts who want insanely deep pow to share with their homies, surrounded by a highly talented staff that focuses on safety, having fun and living it up in the epic “eh frame”. Marty’s guiding company, Capow, has consistently emphasized safety and snow education in Canada and the quality of the guiding in the backcountry is evident before you even hit the skin track. At night, Marty’s sister, Heidi, constantly impresses with incredible meals that could compete with some of the most luxurious, high-end ski lodges in the industry. This is a very special place because of the location but also because of the people and Marty ensures that each incoming group aligns with the vibe, culture, and stoke that The Blanket has become legendary for. I have skied the 7 continents and gotten to experience some truly memorable destinations and wonderful people along the way. Blanket Glacier is truly one of the best places to ski in the world.
