Pyrenees

After reading the November 2013 edition of Powder Magazine featuring Spain's Pyrenees Mountains, my curiosity was stirred on just what made this place so special. The more traditional southern Alps destinations north of the Spain / France border are a natural pilgrimage for any skier but also come with the crowds. Spain on the other hand doesn't attract any backcountry skiers but the pics looked amazing.

The video feature here does an excellent job of highlighting the unique culture and history of these Spanish mountains.  The town of Val d'Aran will mark your arrival and a quick day on the local hill called Baqueira Beret will get your legs warmed up but the real thrill will be to enter Val d'Aran's national park with 12 huts to feed your wildest ski touring dreams.

This terrain is both playful in the trees with deep glades but also very technical in certain couloirs.  Harness and ropes are recommended and there is only one guide in the world that knows it better than anyone and his name is Nacho.

Operating Guide (as featured in the movie):  Nacho Morales

Favorite Hut :  Refugi Ventosa

Luxury Hut:  Banhs de Tredos
