Swedish Lapland
Swedish Lapland is one of Europe's true untouched wildernesses. Nature here is raw and powerful; think endless pine and birch forests, lichen-carpeted forest floors, roaring waterfalls that tumble for kilometers, and peaceful lakeside villages dotted throughout the landscape. Owing to its location above the Arctic Circle, this region is best known for its magical winter landscapes and northern lights as well as outdoor activities like dog-sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, reindeer sleigh rides and now, heli skiing. Niehku Mountain villa is a stunning structure that blends old world history with modern luxury. The building is a converted old railway workshop that was built in 1902 and is located on the Riksgransen, the national border between Sweden and Norway, 200km north of the Artic Circle. This is the world’s northernmost heli ski lodge and arguably, one of the nicest facilities on the globe. The name, Niehku, is the Northern Sami word for “dream” and there’s a pretty good chance the experience will live true to its name when you visit.
